Think Like Jimmy Connors

The great, great Jimmy Connors came up with this quote and I want you to stop for a minute or so and let it really sink in.

Think about it and “become” it!!

He was once asked why he thought he lost a match one day and here was his reply.

“I didn’t lose today, I just ran out of time figuring out a way to win”.

Brilliant!

That really tells you all you need to know about becoming a good tennis player.

It tells you about his actions and approach to playing and winning tennis matches.

It tells you that he is thinking about and trying to work out the best way to beat his opponents.

It tells you that regardless of the score he is not done and there is always a way out – it’s just a matter of time (even though because of the scoring system that time may run out sometimes).

Please take this on board from this all time great and the man who has won more matches in Grand Slams (233) and more ATP Tour titles than anyone in history (109).

This man knows about winning tennis matches.

  2. Great post. I agree completely. I have been in many matches where I have noticed that with a few subtle changes, the match can really turn around. Most players stick with what is working even if it begins to fail them.

If you are falling behind in a match, don’t be hesitant to change something in your game especially if you start to see instant dividends.

Roger Federer would probably be in route to a calendar grand slam had he continued to stay aggressive on Nadal’s weak second serve back in Melbourne.
